Extracurricular Activities Tied to Curriculum

Math Counts - The Math Counts team placed second in Columbus on Saturday. They will move on to the state competition in Lincoln on March 17th. The team consists of: Colin Wooldrik, Ben Meiergerd, Rebekah McGill and Shaelyn Vering; alternates: Leah Bracht and Kora Dorcey. Colin Wooldrik placed 4th in the individual competition and 4th in the Countdown round.
Speech
Congratulations to the Speech team which placed 1st at the Wakefield Speech Meet on Friday. In JV competition: Thomas S. - 3rd in Informative, Tia W. and Sara H. - 3rd in Duet. At the varsity level: OID - team members - Marissa F., Shelby S., Jamie O., Isaac N., and Nathan P. - 1st; Humorous - Adam P. - 1st; Extemp - Nathan P. - 5th , Shelby S. - 6th; Poetry - Roseanne R. - 2nd, Skylar P. - 3rd; Persuasive - Madison K.- 2nd, Sara H.-4th, Karlie B.- 6th; Informative - Makenna K. - 3rd, Jami U. - 5th; Entertainment - Erica W. - 6th; Duet - Jami U. & Jordan K. - 4th
Speech - Speech team competitors who placed at Battle Creek on Saturday were: Spencer Leffler and Adam Perry - FIRST in duet and Adam Perry - 6th in his humorous prose.
Language Arts
Spelling Bee - Congratulations to the 7th and 8th graders who participated in the Cuming County Spelling Bee on Wednesday and did an excellent job of representing GACC. Special congratulations to Grace Neiman who received 2nd place and Luke Gnad who received 3rd place.

TEC RETREAT- If you are a junior, senior or college student, you are invited to a dynamic three-day retreat called TEC (Teens Encounter Christ). TEC is a high energy, youth-focused, spirit-directed faith experience offered by the Archdiocese of Omaha. The next TEC retreat is March 17-19, 2012 at Glad Tidings in Bloomfield. The cost is $65. (Scholarships are available). Applications available online; www.archomaha.org
Life Teen (Organization for grades 9-12; parish-based youth activities such as Life Teen Mass, monthly Life Nights, retreats, summer camps, local and national youth rallies, leadership conferences and various activities aimed at leading teens closer to Christ. St. Mary's Life Teen program is very active at Central Catholic and invites all students to participate.)
Edge (Organization for grades 6-8; activities include Life Teen Mass, Edge night, service projects, retreats)
Mission Possible Peer Ministry (Committee of students, four from each grade, chosen by their peers, to be leaders within the school who plan and facilitate service-related activities throughout the school year. Students are chosen as freshmen and remain on the committee all four years of high school. This group is responsible for planning weekly school Masses and raising donations for charities and organizations that assist the elderly, sick, poor, and disadvantaged.)

Wrestling - Congratulations to the Trojan Wrestling team on their fine performance at the C-2 District meet held at Norfolk Catholic High School. The team placed 9th out of 16 teams. Individual placers and state qualifiers are: Dalton Graybeal 3rd place, Brandon French 3rd place and Kyle Boyle 3rd place. They will wrestle at the CenturyLink Omaha starting Thursday morning at 9:30.

Congratulations to Blake Hass who won the Nebraska NRD conservation poster contest for the 10th – 12th grade division.
